This bank is in great shape. It has been in our family since 1981.
"The Trick Dog Bank" features a Circus Clown With His Trick Dog performing their Circus Act. The way it works is: you place your coin in the doggy's mouth and then you push down on the metal lever located on the base of the bank just behind the dog.. As you push the lever down, the action begins! The dog jumps up high in the air, goes through the Clown's hoop, and then deposits the coin into the barrel on the other side of the bank. Coins can be retrieved by removing the plug located on the bottom of the bank. It measures 7-3/4 inches long by 6-3/4 inches high. The base is 2-1/2 inches wide. All of its mechanical parts work properly. This is a heavy bank due to its being solid cast iron. Weighs close to 4 pounds.
Cast iron mechanical banks have been a collectors item since the mid-19th century. They were originally designed to promote saving among children. To make these banks appealing to kids, they were cleverly designed, often depicting historical, legendary or everyday events. Each bank performs a stunt or an action. All that was needed was for a coin to be dropped into a slot, and the lever to be pulled. The banks quickly caught on with children and adults alike and soon became a sought-after collector's item.
